On Jan. 20, members of Environmental Club took a bus to the Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis for a renewable energy day field trip. Throughout the trip, members were able to inquire about environmental legislation; they had the opportunity to talk to state representatives about bills that are going to be voted on in 2026.
“Its important for us, as leadership members, to see how legislation is made, how we can make artifacts with our voice and how organization really can push progress,” senior Luis Ibarra said. “Especially when it comes down to environmental science and environmental bills.”
Working with state representative Mike Andrade, members were able to inform themselves on the process of bills and legislation.
“What really stuck out to me was how bills are proposed and the amount of research that goes into each one,” Ibarra said.
Not only did members meet with state legislators, but they also met other people in Indiana who care about the environment as well.
“We got to connect with many other environmentalists with similar interests to us,” junior Audra Cabiness said. “Many companies and organizations were advocating for more solar and renewable energy.”
“As a leadership team member, I really want to make an impact that’s further than just our school or just our community,” senior Claire Piriczky said.
