After competing in conference and keeping up the 9-year winning streak, the boys’ basketball team prepares for their sectional games on March 3. Getting ready to face some of their biggest opponents such as Crown Point, the team practices every day.
“[We are preparing by] watching film a lot, trying to learn [the opponents’] tactics and practicing hard, for sure,” senior Victor Guaramato said.
Leading up to sectionals, the team has been keeping each other motivated and ready through the excitement.
“Some of the younger kids who maybe don’t have as much experience, seeing them work hard everyday pushes me to work hard as well,” senior Josh Malloy said.
These final games of the season result in excitement among the team: Guaramato shares what he most looks forward to at sectionals.
“We haven’t really had a crowd this year, but I’m really looking forward to playing for the big crowds,” Guaramato said.
With Guaramato in his senior year, he shares his personal goal for his final high school sectionals.
“Being the leader out there – being a senior – Josh and I have that responsibility of keeping everybody together and playing hard,” Guaramato said.
Coming close to hitting a thousand points throughout his high school career, Malloy shares what has kept him motivated in his senior year.
“It being my senior year, going to war with my guys everyday has really kept me motivated,” Malloy said.
With a current record of 11-5, the team has worked diligently throughout the season, preparing to make it far in these championship games. They have built bonds throughout the season not only on the court, but off the court as well.
“We do a lot of team dinners every month, and hang out a lot outside of practice,” Malloy said.
