As the band turns the corner into the next hallway, junior Angel Serrano plays his flute and marches for the achievements of MHS teams: the renowned schoolwide event is named “The Mustang Stampede.”
“During the stampede for all our teams, we perform for them by providing music and supporting them,” Serrano said.
To spread more spirit, the MHS marching band focuses on hyping up the students and staff at football games and other community events. Spirit is not only emphasized for the audience, but also the football team as it can help ease player’s minds.
“At football games, we chant and play music in the stands to support and push the team,” Serrano said. “The band contributes to the community, providing food and a nice performance during games so people can hear our music.”
Along with the band, the color guard is committed to their work. They practice alongside other marchers often to ensure they are ready for performance. To them, performance is key.
“We are working on finishing touches right now,” senior Rory Friedberg said. “It’s a lot of nit-picking counts and choreography, but it makes us better performers.”
While both the band and color guard seasons are coming to a wrap, they still have some potential final shows on the horizon.
“We have semi-state coming up and, maybe for state, our current show ‘Finding Home,’” Serrano said.
