Munster girl’s flag football team makes it to state in their first year.
As the bus slows to a halt, the MHS girls’ flag football team arrives at the state competition.
For the past 3 months, these 20 girls have worked ceaselessly to prepare for each game. They won 9 out of 11 games and made it to state in their very first year.
Sophomore Berlyn Compton wanted Munster High School to have a flag football team since she began freshman year.
“The main thing that drew me to the sport was how fun it seemed, especially since it’s a team sport,” Compton said.
The team’s dedication throughout the season displayed itself through numerous successes. Sophomore Nola Brown reflects on the moment the team discovered that they will be attending state.
“Everyone was just laughing and happy. We all went to Café Borgia to celebrate,” Brown said.
Despite their loss at state, the flag football team’s achievements have gained attention from students around the school. Senior Jaslynn Sanchez, along with the other players on the team, have set the bar even higher for next year.
“I think girls should have the same opportunity to make history in sports and show their talents on the field,” Sanchez said.
As the flag football season comes to a close, the flag football girls look towards next year and the in-coming generation of players.
