The debate competitors talk through their computer screens, doing their best to convey their points as the judges listen in through the zoom meeting. COVID-19 has definitely changed how things operate and debate is certainly not exempt from that, having to hold its competitions virtually with its competitors and judges requiring to connect to online meetings to hold competitions on most weekends. 

“I’m just really grateful that COVID hasn’t made it impossible to participate in extracurricular activities like debate,” Akansha Chauhan, junior, said. “Going virtual is definitely not ideal, but we are making it work.”

The change creates new challenges for communication, discussion and working together, as a virtual call isn’t as effective as face-to-face talking. Although the season ends soon in early December, debate seems to have pushed through and tried their hardest to continue during these strange times.
