As school begins once again and a late summer haze hovers overhead, the boys’ soccer team kicks off a new and challenging season. With a number of games and conferences on the horizon, the team has already begun taking on their fluctuating, sweat-inducing practice regimens to amplify their technique.
“We have games Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Sometimes we’ll have some nice relaxed days where we just chill, stretch, and do little shooting drills, but other times we’ll get more intense with passing grids and possession,” senior Lucas Ferguson said.
Forming strengthened bonds proves crucial for old and new members of the team alike; even in the field of physical training, teammates encourage each other to achieve their highest possible form. Social events are set in place as an opportunity to fortify each member’s resolve for games in the months to come.

“We always hang out after our games and practices,” junior Brady Adams said. “We’re always talking, and we sometimes have scheduled team outings where we go out to different restaurants as a group.” As the semester sets itself into motion, members of the team such as junior Derek Bobb are steadily developing aspirations and goals for the season’s future as well as anticipation for what the year has yet to bring: not just in the realm of soccer, but for all MHS athletes.
“I’m really looking forward to the game against Lake Central; that’s always a big game, no matter the sport or time of season,” Bobb said. “They’re our biggest rivals, so there are always good games.”
