Running down the field, senior Evan Dennis intercepts the ball and heads towards the endzone. He secured thirty-seven yards for the team.
“My favorite part of the game was when the whole team celebrated after a big play,” said senior Evan Dennis. “We started celebrating around the field and we were all excited, and then we all ran off together.”
Last Friday, Munster competed in their first home game of the season against Lake Central. After a lead in the first half, Munster’s score was already higher than last year’s 0-28 loss. The final score was 45-28, with Lake Central winning.
The team has been looking at some improvements that they can make for their upcoming season.
“On defense, a lot of the team was flying to the ball more and helping others tackle. In the past, we’ve struggled getting tackles. So I think the team is really working on getting off their blocks and tackling the runner,” said Dennis.
Along with working on tackles, the team will also be focusing on a few other techniques to enhance their gameplay.
“I think our main improvement is going to be not cramping as much and also really making sure the team contains the outside and forces our way down the middle,” said Dennis.
The captains attribute their success not only to what happens on the field; but to the action on the sidelines.
“Our sideline really communicated well and helped our team fly to the ball,” said Dennis. “The student section being there for so long, keeping the energy out I think that really helped too.”
When the student section cheers, the team takes notice.
“My favorite part about football is probably the culture. I think it brings the team together and everyone’s really supportive of each other, especially even if they are scuffling during practice, come game time, everyone’s boosting each other up,” said Gideon.
For their games, it is important to have influences like a loud student section and a helpful team. This can play a huge factor into the end score.
“It’s an unfortunate loss, but I think we showed some promise in that game, and I’m confident about the rest of the season,” said Gideon. They have a whole season ahead of them with a lot of possibilities. Their next game will be this Friday, so be ready to support, student section.
