Making a splash: Swim prepares for Sectionals

BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT In her lane performing backstroke, freshman Emilia Buschmann competes against Penn High School for the duel meet. The Munster seahorses went against the Penn’s Kinsgmen on Jan. 11. “I’m mostly just focused on winning, but also underwater because they are the foundation of backstroke overall,” Buschmann said.

Conference has finished with the girls and boys placing first. Now the team is focused on sectionals, which are on Feb. 6 and 8.

“The biggest goal I have as a captain is to have great energy all around,” senior and captain Arantxa Rivera said. “The spirit of the team has to always be there for me, and as long as we have that, we’re already winners.”

The boys have a record of 5-6 and the girls a record of 6-5.

“My favorite part about swim is the girls and the friendships we get, even with the boys team,” Rivera said. “I’ve really enjoyed practicing and competing with everyone these past four years. I’m just realizing how much I’m going to miss it.”

Hi, I'm Gabby. I'm a senior at MHS this year and its my second year on Crier. I took creative writing my freshman year and I took J1 my sophomore year. I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was a little kid and it has always been part of my life in the best way possible. I enjoy surrounding myself with literature as well as writing my own stuff. I plan on continuing with journalism in college.
